Join

SUWO is a community band based at the University of Sydney. We are always seeking new members, whether you’re fresh out of high school or are simply looking for a reason to play with a band again, we would love to have your company. No auditions are required!

While we are primarily composed of university students- members of the general public are more than welcome to join.

Send an email to president@suwo.org.au to join, or drop by during O-Week or any of our rehearsals and introduce yourself.

Instruments

We can accommodate any of the following instruments:

• Woodwind: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bassoon (and all auxiliary winds)
• Brass: Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba,
• Strings: Cello, String Bass
• Percussion

Rehearsals

We rehearse on Thursday evenings from 17:00 – 20:00 during the semester.

Membership Fees

$5 General Membership fee and a $45 per-semester Band fee. This covers sheet music (and practice parts), conductor fees, a SUWO T-shirt, and other costs (including discounted dinners). We can also negotiate a deal for members who cannot attend all rehearsals, but would still like to perform in concerts.

General membership: If you’re not available or interested in being a playing member, you can join SUWO as a non-playing member, where you will get discounted entry to concerts and our many social events held throughout the year.

Requirements

SUWO is open to all players, though it is recommended that players have some level of experience in symphonic band repertoire. However, this is not a requirement, and are happy to accommodate players of all levels.
